Nigeria’s Leader May Be The Least Corrupt In Africa - Washington Post

Nigeria’s Leader May Be The Least Corrupt In Africa - Washington Post

By the standards of sub-Saharan African leaders, Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari is dirt-poor.

According to a statement released by his government, he has $150,000 in his savings account. He owns five homes and two mud houses, an orchard and ranch with 270 head of cattle, 25 sheep, five horses and a variety of birds. He has bought two cars from his savings

"President Buhari had no foreign account, no factory and no enterprises. He also had no registered company and no oil wells," reads the statement released by the spokesman, Garba Shehu, describing the president's assets as "Spartan."

The question on many minds is this: Is Buhari, Nigeria's former military ruler and ex-head of the oil ministry, telling the truth?

Corruption, after all, is a major problem in Africa's largest economy. Buhari himself has publicly said that more than $150 billion is missing from the government's coffers. Still, the public declaration appears to be an attempt to show some much-needed transparency. Buhari was elected in March largely by promising that he wouldn't tolerate corruption.

What's clear is that Buhari has done what his predecessors — and most other African leaders — have never done.

Consider these five other African leaders. They have been labeled by Forbes Magazine as the "five worst leaders in Africa."

1. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea

He's Africa's longest-serving ruler, an autocrat who leads the tiny, oil-rich West African nation of Equatorial Guinea. Despite its vast natural wealth, the majority of its people live in deep poverty with no access to clean drinking water, proper educational or health facilities. One fifth of children die before age 5. The money has gone into the pockets of Mbasogo and his family. They own luxury properties in the United States and other countries, a private jet and a fleet of luxury cars.

2. José Eduardo dos Santos, president of Angola

He's Africa's second-longest-serving leader. Angola is the continent's second-largest oil producer, and one of the biggest suppliers of oil to the United States. It also has massive diamond deposits. Dos Santos's relatives hold key positions in his government and control a huge share of Angola's economy, amid widespread allegations of corruption. Nearly 70 percent of the population lives in dire poverty, and a third of the nation's children are malnourished.

3. Robert Mugabe, president of Zimbabwe

He has ruled the southern African nation for a quarter-century. He was the architect of controversial policies, most notably the seizure of white-owned commercial farms. Though the country in recent years has seen an economic rebound, Mugabe remains one of the continent's most autocratic rulers. He wields nearly total control of government institutions, and his loyalists have used violence to retain control.
Human rights abuses are rife, while unemployment remains among the highest in sub-Saharan Africa.

4. Omar Al-Bashir, president of Sudan

Bashir seized power in a bloodless military coup in 1989 and has since disbanded political parties, the nation's parliament and many privately-owned media outlets. Under his rule, civil war erupted, in which more than 1 million people were killed. Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court at the Hague on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity for his role in the killing and rape of civilians in Sudan's Darfur region. A U.S. diplomatic cable, leaked by Wikileaks, unveiled that Bashir may have stolen as much as $9 billion from state coffers and deposited it into his private bank accounts in Great Britain.

5. King Mswati III, king of Swaziland

He is the continent's last reigning monarch, presiding over a nation with one of the world's highest HIV rates, where average life expectancy — 33 years — is among the lowest in the world.
Despite his people's suffering, the king leads a lavish life with a taste for luxury cars, first-class travel and expensive parties,

Improved Power Supply Is Not Sustainable, Electricity Employees Explain

Improved Power Supply Is Not Sustainable, Electricity Employees Explain

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has claimed that the improved power generation currently experienced by Nigerians is not likely sustainable.

Joe Ajaero, the body general secretary, provided the reasons for the improvements and explained why the things would soon get back to the previous point. He was quoted as saying by Vanguard:

“During this time of the year, there is always a slight improvement in power supply because of the rise in water level. That is, the lake goes up and hydro power stations generate more power.
Second is the Buhari factor which has made operator to sit up and added to that, before now, the gas pipelines were usually vandalized.

“We suspect it may be in collaboration by some highly placed individuals who award contracts for the pipelines to be repaired which runs into billions of Naira. If the pipelines are vandalized and the contracts are awarded for repairs,
almost every two months, it is big money for them. I think that because of the fear that those who engaged in the business may be caught, for now there is relative peace and the gas pipelines are delivering gas to the power plants.

“But we fear the current power situation may not be sustainable. Once the rainy season ends and the water level drops, there will be problem.
Again, today all power being generated is being pumped into the system, there is no reserve in case of any break down, and there is no reserve in case of maintenance and so on. We ought to have reserve for emergencies. Sadly, we do not have that at the moment.”

It should be noted that improvement in power generation has been attributed to the successful performance of President Muhammadu Buhari in his first 100 days in office. Several groups and some individuals have commended the presidency for having fulfilled one of its elections campaign promises.

32-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Arrested In India, Drugs Found Concealed In Her Stomach

32-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Arrested In India, Drugs Found Concealed In Her Stomach

The 32-year-old South African woman named Mosiea Moosa who initially lied that she was 7 months pregnant, was actually carrying packages of the drugs in her stomach and her urogenital tract. She was arrested on August 30 when she landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, India from Dubai on an Emirates flight,The Times of India reports.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths became suspicious after looking at her passport and travel pattern over the last one week. On subjecting her to medical examination, they discovered that she had swallowed the banned drugs which were packed in small polymer packets.

She was rushed to Osmania Hospital by the NCB sleuths to get the packets of drugs out of her body. The NCB sleuths intercepted Mosiea at the RGI Airport after she arrived from Dubai by Emirates flight EK-526 on Sunday morning.

"When we intercepted her, Mosiea said she was walking with difficulty as she was seven-month pregnant. When we shifted her to a corporate hospital at he airport for preliminary examination, she admitted that she was carrying narcotics in her stomach," a NCB officer said.By giving laxatives, the hospital staff managed to extract 16 pouches of narcotics substance. The NCB officials confirmed that no surgery was performed on the woman and she was under medical supervision.

"We have not yet conducted checks on the narcotics recovered from the culprit. However, by looking at her travel pattern and the narcotics market, we suspect that the substance could be cocaine from Brazil," a NCB official said.According to the NCB, Mosiea landed in Dubai from Johannesburg on August 23. The next day, she took a flight to Sao Paulo City (Guarulhos International Airport) in Brazil. On August 28, she returned to Dubai from Sao Paulo. On Sunday, she reached Hyderabad from Dubai.

"As a major portion of cocaine consumed the world over is manufactured in Brazil, we believe that she was carrying the contraband. Her return journey to Johannesburg has been booked from Hyderabad via Dubai on September 10," the NCB source said. The NCB sleuths believe that Mosiea brought the banned substance from Sao Paulo, and after a break in Dubai for two days, she landed up in Hyderabad.

"She is returning to Johannesburg only after a gap of 10 days. So, the receiver could be somewhere close to Hyderabad, but the final receiver of the product could be anywhere," the NCB official supervising the operation said.

8 Things Guys Will Do When They Are Madly In Love

8 Things Guys Will Do When They Are Madly In Love

I have lots of male friends,in fact I love to keep them as friend even my parent know that very well. In my little study about guys and my interactions with them,I discovered that guys actually could get seriously in love with a girl and when they do,these are the signs

1. He will always want to be with you
It is possible for a guy to be always busy but the truth is,if a guy truly loves a girl,he will try to create time out of his busy schedule just to be with her.

2. He feels so confident about you
That moment when you step into a place and he walks up to you and tell you how georgous you look even though you are not putting on the best of clothes. If he sees beauty in you when others think of you as ugly,That's a sign.

3. When he is willing to wait
He may be one guy who loves sex and loves making out with whoever he dates but when he decides to wait till he is committed "married" before he dig it down with you then it means he thinks of you as special. He loves you..

4. When he introduces you to his friends and family
When a guy loves you,he wont hesitate to do the needful because He feels lucky having you and he is scared of loosing you to another guy.

5. He always want to be seen in public with you by his side
When he takes you out to every occasion he attends,it doesn't mean he is selfish/overprotective of you. It means he feels confident about you and he loves you. He doesn't see the relationship as just a joke and he is ready to invest his time and his resource to build up lovely memories.

6. When he sees you and smile even though he is upset
When your guy seem to be upset with everything and everybody around him but immediately you show up he smiles like kilode........That is a sign that you mean a lot to him.

when he respect the fact that you need to work or study and in most cases he's willing to burn the night with you just to make sure you achieve your goal successfully. Then he loves you

8. When he tell you crazy things and does crazy things
When he tells you how many times he purged that morning after eating something funny, how had to sneak into the kitchen to taste what you were cooking when you were not looking, when he still kisses from you wen you are not looking....That means he sees you as a friend, confidant and as his love

Acid Attack Victim wins hearts on Youtube | Watch

Growing up, we would watch various news reports on Newsline with Frank Olize. Some of these reports were happy, while some were immensely sad. We vividly remember watching numerous reports on women doused with acid by their boyfriends or husbands. Many were left scarred for life.
Years later, acid attacks against women still occur in Nigeria and countries around the world such as India.
An Indian woman named Reshma is raising major awareness on the issue. Reshma who is from Mumbai in India was attacked her by her brother-in-law and other men. She was allegedly doused with sulphuric acid and as a result of this attack, her left eye is gone and her face is severely disfigured.
She is now bravely facing the world via a YouTube series called “Beauty Tips by Reshma.”

Nigerian Army Promises to Meet Up with 3 Month Deadline of Defeating Boko Haram

Nigerian Army Promises to Meet Up with 3 Month Deadline of Defeating Boko Haram

Boko Haram - Bella Naija
The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its stand on ending terrorism in three months as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, stated this while giving an update on the counter-insurgency operation, at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.
He stated:
“I have no iota of doubt in my mind that our troops will wipe out the insurgents in the shortest possible time and we are committed to this target. You are aware that our troops recaptured Gamboru Ngala last Tuesday and are now consolidating, mopping up and preparing for the next offensive against the terrorists. It is gratifying to note that most of the terrorist group leadership, has been decimated, while foot soldiers are abandoning their masters, burying their weapons in the forest and seeking solace. It is the achievements from harmonised efforts that have confirmed our stand that the insurgency would be ended as soon as possible.
I would like to acknowledge the commendable role the Nigerian Air Force plays in the fight against terrorism, alongside sister service and other security agencies. The bombardment of identified Boko Haram terrorists’ location, close air support, air surveillance and interdiction by the Nigerian Air Force, have enhanced the ongoing operation’s efficiency and successes. In addition to providing water and airlift of other logistics to the war front, the air force has been a force multiplier as troops are confident that they would receive quick medical attention when necessary.”
The director assured that the military would do its part by ensuring that recaptured territories were secured well enough for the government to commence reconstruction work.
